It involves visiting four sacred Hindu temples located in the state of Uttarakhand. Yamunotri: The first stop of the Char Dham Yatra is Yamunotri, located in the Uttarkashi district. The Yamuna River originates from the Champasar Glacier near the temple.

The Char Dham Yatra is traditionally undertaken from late April to early November when the temples are open for pilgrims. During the winter months, the region experiences heavy snowfall, and the temples remain closed, making them inaccessible.

Pilgrims often start the journey from the town of Haridwar or Rishikesh and proceed to each temple in a clockwise direction, following the age-old tradition.
