Day 1: Arrival in Gangtok – Local Sightseeing

Arrival and Check-In: Arrive in Gangtok via NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. It is advisable to complete your transfer to Gangtok a day prior or early in the morning. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and take some time to freshen up and relax before starting your local sightseeing.

Afternoon – Half-Day Sightseeing:
Tashi View Point: A renowned viewpoint offering spectacular views of the snow-clad peaks of the Eastern Himalayas, especially Mt. Kanchenjunga. Ideal for photography enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful spot to enjoy nature.
Ganesh Tok / Hanuman Tok: These are small yet spiritually significant temples located at higher altitudes. Apart from being sacred sites, they provide stunning panoramic views of Gangtok town and the surrounding valleys. The air is fresh and the ambiance is tranquil, making it perfect for short meditative visits.
Flower Exhibition Centre: Situated near Ridge Park, this center showcases a variety of seasonal orchids, ornamental plants, and other exotic flora native to Sikkim. It's a compact but beautifully maintained space ideal for nature lovers and botany enthusiasts.

Evening – MG Marg Visit: Spend the evening at MG Marg, Gangtok’s main commercial street. This vehicle-free zone is known for its clean environment, vibrant atmosphere, and a variety of restaurants and souvenir shops. You can sample local dishes, sip hot beverages at cozy cafés, and buy handicrafts or traditional clothing as keepsakes.

Day 2: Excursion to Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir & Optional Nathula Pass

Morning: Begin your day with a wholesome breakfast at your hotel in Gangtok. After breakfast, prepare for a memorable full-day excursion to the high-altitude regions of East Sikkim. A special travel permit is required for this trip, so ensure your documentation is in order.

Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft): Approximately 40 kilometers from Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a stunning glacial lake nestled among snow-covered mountains. The lake changes color with the seasons and is considered sacred by the local Sikkimese people. During winter, the lake remains frozen, creating a surreal landscape. Visitors often enjoy yak rides around the lake and can shop at small stalls selling local snacks and souvenirs.

Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir: A revered shrine dedicated to the late soldier Harbhajan Singh of the Indian Army. According to local legend, his spirit still protects the soldiers in this remote region. The temple was built by fellow soldiers to honor his service and miraculous stories. It stands as a place of pilgrimage and national pride, visited by both locals and tourists.

Optional - Nathula Pass (14,140 ft): Located on the Indo-China border, Nathula Pass was once part of the ancient Silk Route. It requires a special permit and is closed to visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays. If the pass is open and you have the necessary permit, this visit offers a rare opportunity to glimpse the Chinese border and experience military presence at one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Weather conditions and official permissions govern access, and photography is restricted in some areas due to security reasons.

Evening: After completing the sightseeing tour, return to your hotel in Gangtok by evening. You can spend the rest of the evening relaxing or exploring MG Marg, the bustling main street of Gangtok, known for its cafes, shops, and local culture.

Gangtok ? Lachen (8,800 ft | 6–7 hrs)

Day 3: Gangtok → Lachen (8,800 ft | 6–7 hrs) - Start your day with an early breakfast at your hotel to prepare for the scenic journey ahead. Depart from Gangtok and embark on a drive of approximately 125 kilometers to Lachen, which takes around 6 to 7 hours depending on road conditions. Along the way, make stops at some breathtaking natural sites. First, visit the Seven Sisters Waterfall, known for its multiple streams cascading down rocky cliffs amidst dense greenery, offering a refreshing sight. Next, proceed to the Naga Waterfall, another beautiful spot where water rushes over rugged terrain creating a tranquil atmosphere. Continue your journey to Chungthang, where you will witness the remarkable confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers, a place of natural harmony and scenic beauty. After enjoying these stops, continue your drive to Lachen, a quaint mountain village at an altitude of 8,800 feet known for its serene environment and traditional culture. Upon arrival in the evening, check into your hotel or a homestay to experience local hospitality. Have dinner at your accommodation and relax for the night in preparation for the next day’s adventures.

Day 4: Gurudongmar Lake ? Lachung

Day 4: Gurudongmar Lake – Lachung

Early Morning (3:30–4:00 AM): Begin your day with an early departure from Lachen towards Gurudongmar Lake, located at an altitude of 17,800 feet. This early start is essential to avoid afternoon cloud cover and to fully appreciate the pristine beauty and serenity of one of the highest lakes in the world. The drive offers stunning mountain views and a chance to experience the unique high-altitude landscape.

Late Morning: Arrive at Gurudongmar Lake and spend time exploring the area. The lake is considered sacred and offers spectacular panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and clear turquoise waters. Take time to acclimatize and capture photographs of the breathtaking scenery while respecting the fragile environment.

Return to Lachen: Drive back to Lachen for a well-deserved lunch. Use this time to rest and recover from the early morning and the high-altitude excursion.

Afternoon: After lunch, embark on a scenic two-hour drive from Lachen to the charming village of Lachung. This route offers lush green valleys, picturesque waterfalls, and the opportunity to witness the rich culture of the region.

Evening: Upon arrival in Lachung, enjoy dinner and check into your accommodation for an overnight stay. Take this time to relax and prepare for the next day’s adventures in the scenic mountains of North Sikkim.

Yumthang Valley ? Gangtok

Day 5: Yumthang Valley ? Gangtok

Start your day with a nourishing breakfast before setting out to explore the breathtaking Yumthang Valley, often called the Alpine Flower Valley due to its vast meadows carpeted with colorful flowers during the blooming season. The valley offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and is a haven for nature lovers and photographers. For those interested in experiencing a high-altitude snow landscape, there is an optional trip to Zero Point, situated at approximately 15,300 feet. This area remains snow-covered for most of the year and offers an otherworldly experience, though please note this excursion involves an additional cost and requires a moderate level of fitness and acclimatization.

After enjoying the morning in Yumthang and optionally visiting Zero Point, return to Lachung for a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant, where you can sample authentic regional cuisine and refresh yourself for the onward journey.

Post lunch, embark on a scenic drive back to Gangtok, which takes about 6 to 7 hours. The route offers stunning views of the Himalayan landscape, mountain valleys, and quaint villages, providing ample opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty and local culture along the way. Expect to arrive in Gangtok by late evening.

Gangtok ? Darjeeling (4–5 hrs)

After a wholesome breakfast, check out from your hotel in Gangtok and begin your journey towards Darjeeling. The drive offers spectacular views of sprawling tea gardens that stretch across the hillsides and the serene Teesta River flowing alongside the route. The changing landscape provides ample opportunities for photography and relaxation. Upon arrival in Darjeeling, complete your check-in formalities at the hotel and take some time to unwind.

In the evening, enjoy leisure time at Mall Road, the heart of Darjeeling’s social scene. Here, you can explore a variety of local shops selling handicrafts, souvenirs, and traditional garments. Numerous cafes and bakeries offer a cozy atmosphere to savor local delicacies or simply watch the vibrant street life. This leisurely evening allows you to soak in the charm and laid-back vibe of this famous hill station.

Darjeeling Sightseeing ? Return to Gangtok

Day 7: Darjeeling Sightseeing & Return to Gangtok

Early Morning (4:00 AM): Drive to Tiger Hill to witness the spectacular sunrise over the majestic Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. The early start offers a peaceful and breathtaking view as the sun's rays illuminate the snow-capped peaks and surrounding valleys.

On the way back: Visit Batasia Loop, an iconic railway loop known for its unique spiral track and panoramic views of Darjeeling town and surrounding mountains. Then proceed to Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the region, known for its beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere.

After breakfast: Explore the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, a renowned center for mountaineering training established in honor of Tenzing Norgay. The institute also features a mountaineering museum showcasing artifacts and information about Himalayan expeditions. Next, visit the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, home to rare Himalayan species such as the snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan wolf. Continue to the Peace Pagoda, a symbol of global peace built by the Japanese Buddhist organization Nipponzan Myohoji, offering a tranquil environment and panoramic views. Lastly, stop at a nearby Tea Garden for photo opportunities amid lush green tea plantations that have made Darjeeling famous worldwide.
